Handmade Presents: Vintage Pincushion & Birdcage

I wanted to make a special gifts for a couple of my friends. Something special and handmade that shows them how much I appreciate how nice they have been to me.

Kay is one of our hospice volunteers. She helps us around the office every Wednesday. She always has a great attitude and makes our day brighter. She had said she loves the color pink and the vintage papers I use on my projects. I decided to give her one of the Birdcages I altered before my wedding. I also made her a tag to go with it, but that’ll be a different post.

I also found out that Joyce (another friend) likes to sew. She made a small pouch as a present for me and I wanted to give her something as well. I had seen a Pincushion tutorial video on youtube and I thought it would be a good idea to make one for her.

Here is a video of both presents, the pincushion and the birdcage.

I tried to make the pincushion with just things I had laying around my craft room. It was the first one I was making and I wanted to make sure I didn’t go spending tons of money on it.

The only thing I bought was the cameo for the front, because I didn't have one in my stash. The small flowers were left over from the wedding decorations.

The ribbons and the lace were also left over from the wedding or the Mad Hatter Hat. I think for the next pincushion I make, I will do something different with the lace, or use a different one because the bottom part was a little flat in my opinion.

All of the paper flowers are handmade by me. The butterfly I covered with glossy accents to make it look like it's glass.

I also made the pins on the top. I had a lot of jewelry from a garage sale. I dismantled the different bracelets and created the pins.

I wanted Kay and Joyce to both know how special they are.

I hope they both like my presents.

Thank you for visiting!
